- Many people are curious as to how I became involved with Peugeot bicycles. I began working at Ted's bicycle
shop in Endicott, NY during my junior year of high school in 1983. I continued working there until the spring of 1996 when I moved to Miami, FL to finish college. Ted began selling Peugeots in the late 60's and was the only continous Peugeot dealer from the late 60's through Peugeot's final years in the U.S.
- Working in a bicycle shop during the early 80's allowed a mechanic to see and work on what we now call 'vintage'
bicycles. These were bikes before the modern era of indexed shifting, threadless headsets, suspension forks along with many other innovations. It also allowed me to work with Peugeots first hand during the transition from being traditional French bikes with French components and threading to French bikes with Japanese, French and Italian components and full British threading.
- Another key element to this time period was Peugeots withdrawal from the U.S. market and a transition to
ProCycle of Canada as producer of North American Peugeots. At one point, my employeer, Ted's Bicycle Shop, was the only Peugeot dealer in the U.S. In fact, he was the only continuous Peugeot dealer in the U.S. from 1969 through Peugeot final withdrawal from the U.S. market in 1989.
- This experience allowed my to have hands on experience with one of the worlds most popular and race winning
bicycle companies.
